TRANSCRIPT:

– Hey guys, it’s Rebeca Arbona with BrandTrue, and today we’re going to do a “Does This Brand Suck?”, that was recommended by our friend Tracy Osborne, about the Flying Pig Marathon. I’m here in Cincinnati, Ohio and yes, our marathon is called The Flying Pig.

So does this brand name suck? Is this a good idea or a bad one? It’s actually a great idea. I think it’s a wonderful name, despite the fact that pigs… Well, here’s why. It’s a really big part of our heritage. This town was built on bringing pigs down the river and slaughtering and processing them here. Not pretty, it didn’t smell good, but the city was almost named Porkopolis because of that. And as we’ve moved past it, thank God, I would not live in Porkopolis, it’s become a symbol of the city.

At one point, an architect installed some pigs with wings as a joke in a park, and then the Flying Pig became a symbol of the city. And given that, it makes it a wonderful name for the marathon. If we use our BrandTrue framework it hits on all of them. Is it a Transparent communication? Well yeah, the venue is what differentiates a marathon in any city and it, it’s not just the Cincinnati Marathon, it’s the Flying Pig. It reinforces that sense of place.

Is it Real, authentic? Absolutely. Is it Unique? Uh definitely. I don’t see any flying pigs anywhere else. And is it Engaging? Totally! It’s so silly! Pigs can’t fly… except here! And it’s visually reinforcing everything on that marathon. The t-shirts, the banners, the medals, everything has flying pigs on it. So it’s, it’s whimsical and it’s memorable. It’s awesome! Yes it’s a great name! That’s what I think. Uh you can try to disagree. Convince me! Let me know what you think. Thanks. Bye!
