From time to time I see nonprofits that lean into sass, playfulness, and personality in their names—and I am here for it!
Names With No Filter
Two quick example highlighted in this #tellthetruths video:
🧦 Sox Box (yes, I said it backwards—no, I’m not re-recording it)
👙 I Support the Girls (and wait until you see that logo—you guys know I focus just on names in these videos, but this one is… memorable.)
If you’ve seen any other nonprofit names that ditch the formality and reserve to go bold, drop them in the comments—I’d love to see more!

How Non-Profits Benefit From Powerful Name Changes
I Have Questions: Be The Match
TRANSCRIPT:
Hi guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue. Today I want to talk about names that don’t have a filter. I don’t know if that’s exactly the right thing. These are names that are a little bit sassy, a little bit cute, which is interesting because they’re names in the non-profit sector, which tends to be much more conservative because, you know, you’re asking for money, you’re applying for grants, and you just want to play it safe. But just like we’re seeing more and more emotional names for nonprofits, we’re also seeing a little bit more of a sense of playfulness, and I’m here for it.
Two examples that I really like that I wanted to share with you are actually both in the space of serving people that are unhoused. One is called Box of Sox. You can guess what it is that they supply. But just to have a name that’s being playful and rhyming in the nonprofit space surprised me, it stood out to me. Even more playful, if not downright sassy, is an organization called I Support The Girls, which is trying to make sure that women who are unhoused are getting their very female-specific needs met. For example, it can be very, very hard when you’re living on the street to get bras, and it’s, you know, important and important for comfort. Also feminine hygiene products. And so to have that kind of mission and to have a name that’s playful around it really stands out to me. I think it’s memorable, I think it’s effective, and I think it’s a great trend.
I would love to hear your examples of nonprofit names that are not quite staying staid or playing it safe, because I think this is great and I want to hear about more. Thanks. Bye!
