I’ve written many times about naughty brand names, but one step down is the snarky, sarcastic name that functions similarly. The attitude of these kinds of names can make them really memorable and engaging, provided that such at one is appropriate for your category and positioning.
Snark Tank
Check out my latest #tellthetruths video for a breakdown and some fun examples. But more than anything, please share any examples of similar snark that you’ve encountered in the wild.

Hey guys, it’s Rebeca Arbona with BrandTrue, and I have titled this video Snark Tank because I love a snarky name. I’ve talked to you guys many times about naughty names. Names that are a little risqué, my favorite, the restaurants down south called Slutty Vegan, like not for everyone, but really gets your attention.
Well, there’s this whole class of names that are like a step down. They’re not naughty, but they’re not normal. They have attitude, they’re snarky, they’re sometimes sarcastic, and you know, just like a naughty name it’s not right for every brand. But if it’s right for you it is fabulous, attention-getting, memorable, delicious.
So some examples… I think that the primo example, now a $1 billion brand, is Liquid Death, the water company. It’s not naughty, but it’s not nice. It’s… you certainly notice it and you talk about it. I’ve talked about it on here plenty of times, but now I’m seeing that this… there’s ripples. There’s a lot of brands like this. There’s… in every category. There’s a venture capital firm that, yeah, investors that are called Obvious Ventures. Like if it’s obvious, then everyone would already be doing it. They’re looking for the non-obvious, novel ideas. So there’s a sarcasm in calling themselves that. There’s Death Wish Coffee. There’s a streetwear brand called House of Rejects. I mean, there’s so many examples out there that I can’t remember them all to list them for you while I’m talking.
So do me a favor… do you agree that these work? Do you have any favorite snarky, off-color, kind of sarcastic brand names? Let’s talk. Thanks. Bye!
