TRANSCRIPT:

Hey guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue and today we’re going to do another one of those Battle of the Brand videos. This time we’re gonna pit Athleta against Title Nine. So they’re both women’s athletic wear, sportswear brands. And I actually thought this was really interesting. It’s not like a stacked deck where one is clearly going to kick the other one’s butt.

So if we start, for transparent communication, I think that they both give you a sense of what they are right from the get go. They’re both transparent names. And then in terms of like really reals or real feels, some kind of sense of authenticity, I think that they’re both there. Athleta? Yeah, Athleta, I asked them at the store whether it was “Athletta” or “Athleeta”. Athleta is sort of more broadly appealing. It’s a bigger brand. It’s from the Gap, so they had that backing behind them. Title Nine has been around for a while, almost as long as Title IX . It started out smaller. It has grown quite a bit, but it stayed smaller. It’s scrappier. So for those that don’t know, Title IX was the landmark legislation that enabled women to have funding in higher education for sports. So it’s a tiny bit “inside baseball” when you see Title Nine, it means women in sports, mostly. But it’s not too inside baseball. It suits their niche as a small company that’s grown over time. So they’re both really great names from that respect. Are they unique? I think they’re both unique. Are they engaging? I think they’re both engaging.

So do we have a winner? I’ve decided we don’t. I’ve decided that, really, as I thought about it, it’s like Athleta plays Division One and Title Nine plays Division Three. There’s room for both and they’re both league champions. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Bye!
