Hey guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue, and today we’re going to do another, we love them, “Does This Brand Suck?” video! This one is on a brand called Dataiku.

Cha was just asking me, “Wait, Dataiku, is that how it’s pronounced?” And I said, “No one knows. That’s the point of the video.” So does this name suck? Well, it certainly has issues, as you can tell already. It’s a portmanteau name, that’s French for suitcase, meaning it’s got two words smooshed together, like motor, hotel, motel, breakfast, lunch, brunch. So this is data, a piece of information, datum, and haiku, which is a very strictly structured Japanese poem, which I love. So this software company, they put the two together. Now it was founded in 2013 in Paris, but I don’t think it’s any easier to pronounce in French and certainly in English it’s really not entirely connecting.

Is it a Transparent communication? I’ll give them that because since it’s a software company and it’s got data in the first part of the name, you definitely get the data, that’s great. Has it got the Really Reals, really connecting in any way, part of the brand history? No, no, no, no, no. Okay, is it Unique? Yes! Is it Engaging? I don’t think so.

It’s confusing, nobody knows how to pronounce it, so… might be a great company. Might not. I’m not in a position to assess the quality of a software company, but I can tell you that for me, the name kind of sucks. Yeah. Let me know what you think. I always love to hear your opinions. Thanks. Bye!
