Don’t Fix What Ain’t… You Know

Not every rebrand is a glow-up. Some are just… not pretty. In this week’s hashtag#tellthetruths video, I talk about an example in which a renaming lost the plot and forgot the equity that made the brand strong in the first place.

Check it out, then let me know what you think.

It’s Not a Platform. It’s a Conversation

Too many of us treat social like a megaphone, not a conversation.

In this #tellthetruths video, I unpack why it’s not enough for brands to establish monologues with a comment section—and why real connection happens when you invite true dialogue with the people you’re engaged with.

Because on social (and in life), it’s not the pickup line that wins people over. It’s the conversation that follows.

UNTUCKit (for Women)

Just because a shirt is untucked doesn’t mean your brand strategy should be.

In my latest #tellthetruths video, I talk about why I think UNTUCKit, the men’s clothing brand, is barking up the wrong tree by trying to extend into women.

The brand’s positioning is to thread the needle between men’s comfort (especially for men of a certain age) and the desire to avoid looking like a slob. It tells them, “you can have on a nice, crisp shirt, and here’s permission not to tuck it in so you can hide your dadbelly.”

But that framing doesn’t quite land with women. As much as we care about comfort too, the idea behind this brand just isn’t as aspirational for us.

What do you think? Would you ever buy from them? I’m especially curious what the women in my audience have to say.

Telling Stories, Sending Telegrams

Would you drink a wine called “Herbacious Fruit?”

While I believe that a brand’s strategic needs should drive the type of brand name they choose, this #tellthetruths video shares some of my recent thoughts about how the category a name competes in will also drive whether the brand needs a cut and dried, descriptive name or something more evocative.

The Evolution of EV Names

EV names used to scream “electric.” Now they don’t. That shift says a lot about where we are and what naming has to keep up with. This week’s #tellthetruths digs in. Let me know what you think.

Branding vs. Marketing

The difference between Branding and Marketing isn’t that complex, but it’s not that simple, either. If it were, people wouldn’t ask us about it all the time.

So in this #tellthetruths video Rebeca takes a stab at it.

Check it out, then let us know what you think.

What Is Brand Equity?

Sure, we all have magic Googlé machines where we can look anything up. But defining is not the same as explaining.

Check out our latest #tellthetruths video where Rebeca explains some questions she asks to define Brand Equity.
